I’ll be the first to tell you, I spend the least amount of time on makeup and hair as possible. I don’t like the idea of “perfecting” my look. Since my personal style leans more toward business polish, when it comes to beauty, I want messy. I want mussed. I want lived-in. And if it takes more than 10 minutes to get it done, I’m not doing it. So, you could say I landed on this easy everyday makeup routine because I’m lazy. And I’m perfectly ok with that!
I was so happy when the no makeup makeup trend became a thing. I felt like my time had finally come. The heavier makeup formulas that dominated the aisles when I was a teenager never felt right. I always choose lip gloss over lipstick, and to this day, I don’t use bronzer. Honestly, many of the products out there aren’t necessary for my needs.
So, after years of trial and error, these eight products give me the natural, fresh-faced look I like without fail. Starting with Maybelline Fit Me Natural Finish Concealer in 010 Fair. I find that applying concealer before my base helps me avoid overdoing it. And this creamy concealer is a pretty great color match to my skin with a hint of peach that helps with my dark circles.
Next comes the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++ # 13 Milky Beige. I’ve loved this BB cream for years. It blends like a dream, can be thinned out for a natural finish, or built up to medium coverage. The one downside, as with many Korean base products, is the limited shade range. #13 is the lightest shade, and there are only 5 shades altogether. Fingers crossed they continue to expand. It’s such a wonderful formula.
Now for blush! Oh, blush how I love you! Of all the products I use, my favorites are blush and lip gloss (I’ve branched out in adulthood and found some lipsticks, too). Revlon Powder Blush in Naughty Nude is the best sun-kissed blush I’ve come across. I use it all year round to give a slight sunburned look during the summer, and wind-nipped cheeks in the fall and winter. When a girl hits pan on a makeup product, you KNOW it’s good.
I never feel complete without a bit of highlight. Not the megawatt, can see it from space kind either. No, we go for subtly here, and the Sephora Collection Sephora Colorful® Powder Luminizer in Iced Pearl gets the job done perfectly. A pearly white sheen without being frosty. Love it!
The Hourglass Ambient™ Lighting Finishing Powder in Dim Light has been around for ages and for good reason. This product is magic in a compact. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m in love with how my skin looks after I apply this light-diffusing powder.
L’Oréal Voluminous Original Washable Mascara in Blackest Brown gives me the fanned-out natural lashes I like. I can also layer it for a more dramatic look when the occasion calls for it. I really like that it isn’t pitch black. Brown looks better with my hazel eyes.
The ELF Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray is a relatively new product in my rotation. For the longest time, I was a naysayer about setting sprays. I consider most of them to be gimmicks. But this one does exactly as it says. If, after adding powders, you find that your makeup has gotten too matte, this will bring back the glow.
And lastly, Nars Sheer Lipstick in Dolce Vita. I just found out this has been discontinued (crying!) I’ll include it here for honesty’s sake. It’s what I wear daily—my ‘my lips but better’ color. And now, I must traverse the sea of lip products to find a possible dupe. Wish me luck!
