When it comes to beauty, skincare is my first priority. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how expensive the paints are if the canvas isn’t properly prepped. Also, makeup comes off at the end of the day, while skin is forever, so I want to make sure mine is in tip-top shape. After years of trial and error, I’ve found a quick morning routine that keeps my skin happy and healthy. The best part, it only takes three steps to get the job done!

Before we get into it, a bit about my skin. I’m in my 40’s. I have normal-to-combination skin for most of the year. In the winter, it gets much drier. I still suffer from occasional breakouts (annoying), but for the most part, I’m combating past scarring. For that, my evening skincare routine is a little more rigorous.

In the morning, I start with the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser. I’ve used this cleanser for years and keep coming back to it. It’s marketed for normal to dry, sensitive skin, and even though I don’t have sensitive skin myself, I’ve found that products made for that skin type have been helpful with my own. It doesn’t leave my skin dry and flaky after use. It also doesn’t leave a film of product behind.

Next is the Rice Toner from the Korean brand IM FROM. I’ve been using it for a few months now, and I really like what it’s done for my skin in such a short time. The formula is thin and lightweight. It absorbs quickly and works well under my other products. No pilling! As the name suggests, the main ingredient is rice, which has helped soften and brighten my complexion. I will absolutely be purchasing this again!

And finally, SPF. ALWAYS wear your SPF. It’s the number one anti-aging product on the planet! I’m currently switching between two at the moment. ELF’s Suntouchable Whoa Glow Sunscreen SPF 30 in Sunbeam and Naturium’s Dew Glow Moisturizer SPF 50. Whoa Glow has been a repurchase for years, and Dew Glow is a more recent addition.

Whoa Glow is an SPF primer hybrid, so it’s perfect for under makeup. I like the subtle sheen it gives. It doesn’t make me feel like a disco ball! There are three tints to choose from, which isn’t terrible given its thin formula. There are times I have to remind myself to put more on than I think I need. Because this is both a sunscreen and a makeup product, a thin layer won’t provide the 30 level protection needed.

I’ve been enjoying Dew Glow. I love the lightweight moisturizing feel. It doesn’t have the heaviness that many face SPF products leave behind. The glow it gives is much more natural, like a demi matte. It’s also formulated to work under makeup, which is a plus. I want to give a shout-out about the packaging. They’ve added a little cup on the lid, meant to serve as a guide for how much product to use. About ¼ teaspoon. I wish more companies would take SPF application this seriously.

no makeup only skincare

This 3-step morning routine makes getting ready a breeze. These products help keep my skin happy and healthy while also creating a great canvas for makeup. I’m glad to have finally found a routine that works and doesn’t take 20 minutes to get through.
